GPTs Are “Dead”? Why ChatGPT Projects Are the Upgrade You’ve Been Waiting For
Sep 08, 2025Remember a few months ago when everyone was making their own GPT—like Oprah giving away cars? You get a GPT, you get a GPT… and suddenly our digital lives were full of these cute little custom assistants.
But here’s the problem: GPTs quickly started feeling like having 100 browser tabs open. Helpful in the moment, but totally disconnected. Every time you opened a new chat, it was like your GPT had amnesia.
So no, GPTs aren’t really dead (I still use them!). But if you’ve been frustrated by that scattered, “where did I ask about that chicken recipe?” feeling… let me introduce you to the glow-up you didn’t know you needed: ChatGPT Projects.
What Are ChatGPT Projects?
Think of a Project like your personal AI hub. Instead of 20 different conversations scattered all over ChatGPT, a Project keeps everything in one tidy, central place:
- Multiple chats that all live under one roof
- Files and PDFs you can upload and reference anytime
- Context that sticks across conversations (no more starting from scratch every time)
Basically—it’s the difference between sticky notes all over your desk versus one neat binder where everything actually belongs.
GPTs vs. Projects: What’s the Difference?
- Memory & Organization
- GPTs: Great helpers, but forgetful.
- Projects: Everything is stored + organized in one place.
- Sharing
- GPTs: You can share or even sell them.
- Projects: Currently personal-only (no sharing yet).
- Use Cases
- GPTs: Best for small, repeatable tasks.
- Projects: Perfect for ongoing systems and bigger-picture organization.
Think of GPTs as your little sidekicks… and Projects as your command center.
Real-Life Ways to Use Projects (That Will Actually Make Life Easier)
Here are some ideas I’ve tested (and that you can totally steal):
- Meal Planning Hub: Create separate chats inside your Project for “Chicken Recipes,” “Fish Recipes,” and “Desserts.” No more scrolling through endless AI history trying to remember that one soup you loved.
- Podcast HQ: Store your episode ideas, outlines, guest prep, and repurposed content in one spot. (This is my next move, because—hello, organization!)
- Book Writing: When I was finishing my book, having everything in a Project made the process so much smoother. (Stay tuned-my book is coming out on Amazon soon! Connect with me on LinkedIn to get all the updates.)
- Budgeting or Trip Planning: Upload files, run chats, and keep all your notes together.
How to Combine GPTs + Projects
Here’s a simple workflow:
- Use a GPT to track something repetitive (like wellness data).
- At the end of the month, have the GPT summarize your info into a chart or report.
- Upload that summary into your Project.
Voilà—organized history that doesn’t get lost in the scroll.
Try This Mini Challenge
Open ChatGPT and create your first Project today. Name it something simple like “Life Hub.” Add one chat—maybe “Meal Planning” or “Budgeting.” Label it clearly.
You’ll feel an instant shift from scattered tabs → calm control.
Final Thoughts
GPTs aren’t really dead. But if you’re ready to stop fighting with a million disconnected chats, Projects are the upgrade you’ve been waiting for.
So friend, tell me: do you still use GPTs? Have you tried Projects yet? Come connect with me on LinkedIn and let’s chat about it!
